Bilic is focused

Slaven Bilic maintains he and his Croatian side are focused on their Euro 2008 opening game against the Austrians despite his team’s 1-1 draw with a buoyant Hungary in Budapest. They will now have a couple of days rest before a brief training session in Zagreb on Tuesday morning and then will be making their way to their Austrian base in Bad Tatzmannsdorf late Tuesday afternoon.

Bilić has gone on record to say that he has been happy with the team’s preparations and that there are no problems at all ahead of flying out to Austria. He emphasised that all twenty-three players originally selected remain the same and all are raring to go. He said that although the management team are also looking ahead to the Germany and Poland games, Austria remains the priority.

Captain Niko Kovac is also in positive mood ahead of the finals, but has warned his team-mates not to underestimate an Austrian squad that has suffered a run of indifferent results in their friendlies since their last competitive action back in October 2005. He concluded by saying that the whole team has a great feeling about the finals and that preparation had been ideal for an extended run from Croatia.
