Benfica Claim Portuguese Honours![]() Benfica notched up their 32nd Portuguese Liga title with a 2-1 home win against Rio Ave. Two losses away from home in the entire season and a whopping 43 from a possible 45 points gained at home indicated the type of consistency that brought them UEFA Champions League qualification. Two Oscar Cardozo goals not only brought the title but sent the striker to the top of the scoring charts this season. His 38 goal haul, 26 of which came in the league, secured him the Golden Boot and brought his tally to 56 in 82 games for Benfica, a record that has attracted interest from other clubs. Sporting Braga had their best ever league campaign. Their second place finish also guaranteed them a place in the qualifying rounds of the UEFA Champions League. FC Porto finished what for them would be a disappointing third whilst joining them in the Europa League stages next season will be Sporting Libson who finished a full 20 points behind them in fourth. Leixoes already knew their fate as did Belenenses whose win at third bottom Vitoria Setubal was immaterial as was their 5-2 hammering of Uniao Leiria the previous week.
