Valon Behrami is likely to miss Switzerland’s World Cup opener against favourites Spain due to a muscle tear.

The West Ham player picked up the injury against Italy in a friendly last week and it was initially feared he would miss the whole tournament. But after the full extent of the problem was revealed, the Swiss expect Behrami to be fit to face Chile in their second group clash.

In the warm-up match with the Italians, Udinese based Gokhan Inler opened the scoring but Marcelo Lippi’s side fought back for a 1-1 draw in Geneva.
