Bayern set to land TymoschukBayern Munich are set to land Zenit St. Petersburg captain Anatoily Tymoschuk according to various German news sources. The Bundesliga Champions are hoping to land the Ukrainian midfielder in order to bolster their midfield options, and the defensive midfielder will be seen as an ideal replacement for the outgoing Mark van Bommel and Ze Roberto, with both players contracts running out in the summer.
Reports suggest that Bayern Munich general manage Uli Hoeness met with the midfielder to discuss a potential move, whilst other sources go as far to suggest that the Ukrainian is in Munich to undergo a medical to seal a future move.
It is unlikely that any move will go through until next summer, when Bommel and Ze Roberto both leave the club and the Russian champions are likely to want to hold onto their star player for as long as possible.
Tymoschuk, 29, made a name for himself in his home country of Ukraine for Shakthar Donetsk before a £10 million move lured him to Zenit St. Petersburg. In his first season at the club the midfielder was named captain and led the Russian side to victory in the UEFA Cup.
Tymoschuk is also vice-captain of the Ukrainian national side, for whom he has made 78 appearances since his debut in 2000.
