Bayern Rule In The Bundesliga![]() Bayern Munich march on to the UEFA Champions League final with the Bundesliga title firmly in their grasp following their final day victory in Berlin. Schalke’s 0-0 draw at Mainz was made immaterial by goals from Olic and Robben, who grabbed a brace. Bayern had a massive goal difference advantage going into the final fixtures having scored the most goals in the Bundesliga but they didn’t need it to secure their record 22nd German league title. They completed the domestic double with victory in the German Cup and reached the UEFA Champions League final with the chance of a famous treble. Schalke fell just short but, despite the disappointment of second place and missing out on their first domestic title in over 50 years, can console themselves with the promise of Champions League football next season. Werder Bremen secured place and a qualifying spot for the UEFA Champions League while Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Dortmund and Stuttgart claimed Europa League places in 4th, 5th and 6th respectively. Hertha Berlin went into the last weekend of fixtures knowing they would be playing second tier football next season but VfL Bochum held out hopes of retaining their Bundesliga status. However, defeat at home to Hannover 96 sealed their fate as nearest rivals Nuremburg won 1-0 against Augsburg. Hannover themselves would have gone down if they had lost.
