Bayern Munich will look to ride the momentum of their first leg draw with AC Milan when they face off in the final leg on Tuesday. A late goal by Daniel Van Buyten helped Coach Ottmar Hitzfeld and his Munich side avoid their seventh loss to AC Milan in nine tries, but carrying that momentum into the final leg is something that the coach knows won’t be easy. He’ll be hoping that his men can up their intensity and play off of the home crowd in order to move on into the semifinals of the UEFA Champions League.

“We go up a gear when we are at home,” Hitzfeld said in a recent interview. “We’re capable of picking up our play ten to twenty percent when we’re at home.”

That home field advantage and the positive signs coming from the opening leg are reasons to believe, but a pretty good AC Milan squad is still standing in the way. Bayern Munich will also have to contend with a number of meaningful injuries if they’re to get past Milan. Among those on the injured list are Willy Sagnol and Martin Demichels.

For AC Milan, the task is simple. They couldn’t quite hold on to a 2-1 advantage on the home pitch and now find themselves having to fight on the road for survival. They’ll want to play well early in order to take the home standing Munich crowd out of the game. Milan will undoubtedly look to long time scoring presence Filippo Inzaghi for a scoring punch. His success in UEFA Champion’s League games has been well documented and the forward has been equally adept at hurting the Bayern Munich side, notching five career goals against them.

A positive mindset will be essential for AC Milan, who just defeated Empoli FC by a score of 3-1 over the weekend. Though they’re on the road and expect a difficult challenge, Coach Carlo Ancelotti insisted that his team could perform well enough to get the job done. “It comes down to how the teams perform,” He said in a pre-game interview. “We have got to remain upbeat about our chances and have faith in our quality.”
