Newcastle United midfielder Joey Barton was in court after being charged with common assault and affray during a night out in Liverpool.

The ex Man City midfielder was arrested in Liverpool after a night out on the 27 December. He was having a night out with some friends and family and got himself into an argument with a man outside McDonalds.

The 25 year old went to court in a Liverpool Magistrates Court and was given extended bail until 23^rd April where he will then go to Liverpool Crown Court to be sentenced.

Both Barton’s brother Andrew and a friend of Barton’s Nadine Wilson were also arrested in connection with the attack.

Both Andrew Barton, charged with assault and Nadine Wilson, charged with common assault and affray also appeared at Liverpool Magistrates Court. As with Joey Barton they were both bailed until 23^rd April and must attend Liverpool Crown Court to be sentenced.
