Baggies In Worrying Trend

West Brom face a test of nerve over the next few weeks as they bid to turn their form around and get their season back on track.

The Baggies’ loss at Blackburn was their sixth defeat in their last seven games and it leaves them just three points above the relegation zone.

The confidence that flowed a couple of months ago – when they were giving hidings to the likes of Arsenal and Everton on the road – has drained rapidly and they are gradually getting sucked into a battle that they looked like avoiding for much of the season.

Their fans have had their fair share of relegation heartache over the years and the alarm bells will be ringing again. But with Wigan, West Ham and Wolves to play in three of their next four matches, Albion will have a chance to make a statement of intent and put some distance between themselves and their rivals again.

Roberto Di Matteo bemoaned the referee’s failure to award a penalty at Ewood Park but the Italian was gracious enough to admit his side weren’t good enough in the second half.

At least West Brom know what they’re capable of – as they demonstrated so well earlier in the season. Now they just have to rediscover their self-belief and stop the slump before it’s too late.
