Azerbaijan v Poland
Azerbaijan coach Shakhin Diniyev has announced his squad for their Euro 2008 qualifier matches against Poland and Kazakhstan. Brazilian-born internationals Ernani Pereira and Leandro Gomes are out injured while Diniyev has not picked Marcus Ferreira and Andre Ladaga into the squad.
"I've decided not to call up players who are not in their best shape. At the same time I'm very happy the majority of my players really want to play for their country", Diniyev said. The squad has go only two naturalized players in form of Ukranian-born Aleksandr Chertoganov and Serbian-born Branimir Subašić. Veterans Emin Guliyev and Samir Aliyev too have been called-up for the first time. Azerbaijan is currently one place above the bottom with 4 points from 6 matches.
Poland coach Leo Beenhakker has decided to stick with his team of veterans as they look to consolidate their position at the top of the table. Beenhakker has retained goal-scorer Maciej Zurawski as well as Lukasz Fabianski, Artur Boruc and Wojciech Kowalewski.
Beenhakker will want a repeat performance from his team, which thrashed Azerbaijan 5-0 in March. Zagłębie Lubin striker Łukasz Piszczek will replace Radosław Matusiak for the games against Armenia and Azerbaijan. Matusiak has injured his ankle and is not expected to play in both games. Poland coach Leo Beenhakker is bound to feel his absence as he has already scored twice in the Euro 2008 qualifying rounds.
Poland is sitting pretty at the top of the table, with 16 points from 7 matches. Azerbaijan v Poland kicks off at 17:00 GMT on Saturday 2nd June. Be sure to tune in to watch live international football online.
