Arteta To Aim High

With his strike force on semi-permanent sick leave. Everton boss David Moyes is relying on goals from all positions to supplement his makeshift forward line. And the welcome return to form of Spaniard Mikel Arteta has led Moyes to drive his midfielder to keep his eye on the target.

Since Arteta was moved to a central midfield position from wide, his influence on performances has grown but his manager wants to see a more defined contribution in terms of goals. Moyes said “I want to see him score more goals from open play now. Hopefully, that will be the ongoing process of him developing”.

Arteta, whose career has seen him enjoy spells at Barcelona, Real Sociedad and Rangers, has developed since his move to Goodison Park, so much so that the transfer window has seen him linked with several clubs. However, Everton claim to have received no enquiries. And Moyes certainly has no intentions of parting with a player in form. "Mikel has come good after a difficult spell," Moyes added “If people play well, you will always get recognised”.
