The clubs pre season schedule saw the start of the Emirates Cup over the weekend. Arsenal played Paris St Germain and won 2-1 with an inspired display. Arsenal have hogged the headlines through much of the close season. Thierry Henry and veteran midfielder Freddie Ljungberg have both departed the club. Speculation of unrest is rife as Wenger is left with a young and inexperienced squad. Arsenal have been linked with a number of players over the course of the summer. Lassana Diarra from Chelsea has featured on the wishlist whilst uncertainty continues to surround Jose Antonio Reyes. Arsenal’s major summer signing so far has been the acquisition of striker Eduardo da Silva. Silva is still awaiting a work permit to be granted but is likely to feature in the teams opening games of the season if not the upcoming Amsterdam Tournament. With all the hype throughout the summer many pundits and fans alike have written off the chances of Arsenal in the upcoming season. However, it remains to be seen how they fair as they finally get to write the lines of the sports columns with their on the pitch displays rather than matters behind closed doors.
