Aragones Names Spanish Squad

Luis Aragones, the confident Spanish Manager, has said that he believes Spain has what it takes to win UEFA Euro 2008.

This comes after he named his final 23-man squad. Among the suprise inclusions are Santiago Carzola and Sergio Garcia. Although there is no place for Raul Gonzalez.

Garcia has scored 4 league goals, for his team - Real Zaragoza. Carzola has been a vital player in the midfiled of Villareal CF, who will finish the year as Primera Division runners - up. Aragones has placed importance on form with the picking of his squad:

"I have chosen the players in relation to how they have performed over many games."

Carzola has scored five goals in 34 games. Raul however was not picked for the squad - despite scoring 18 goals for Real Madrid - the winners of the Primera division. Other players left out include David Albelda and Joanquín Sánchez.

"It's not a question of how many goals a player has scored or how well their club has played because there are other players who have done similar things who aren't coming,"

But the Spanish team looks very strong. They face Russia, Sweden and Greece in Group D - all familiar foes. Aragones even joked about when they would qualify for the quarter-finals.
