25 year old Shola Ameobi is gunning for a return to the Premiership in the dying weeks of the 2006-07 season. The Newcastle striker recovering from hip surgery is aiming to return for Newcastle’s fixture against Reading next Monday.

Shola has already played for the reserves this week and is aiming for a first team place in next weeks English Premier League tie. Ameobi played the reserve game alongside Michael Owen another long term injury for the Magpies. Owen was injured in England’s World Cup 2006 efforts last year. Owen is also targeting a return for the magpies but the voices of authority at St James Park continue to keep us in the dark as to whether or not we will see a return for the England striker.
