Road to 2010 World Cup

The Fennecs were tipped to provide a tough challenge for Egypt in their qualification group and Rabah Saadane’s side did not disappoint as they collected the same number of points as the Pharaohs with identical overall and head-to-head records.

This resulted in a tie-breaking game in November which Algeria won thanks to a first half goal by Antar Yahia to book a place in the tournament.

Key Players

While they are once again expected to miss out on a berth in the knockout stages with the team clubbed with England, United States and Slovenia, Algeria’s hopes of upsetting the odds will rely heavily on Mourad Meghni who is yet to fully recover from his injury.

The Fennecs will be missing a number of key players with Hameur Bouazza and Yacine Bezzaz both out injured.
