Daniel Agger is set to miss the rest of Liverpool’s Premier League campaign through injury.

The Danish international, who plays in defence, has not played since September, when he broke his metatarsal. He did make one appearance for the Liverpool reserves in the hope of being able to get match fit and back into contention for a starting place but has since failed to overcome the injury he suffered early in the season.

Liverpool have now decided it would be best for both Agger and the club if he went for an operation to sort the problem out.

Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez has expressed his disappointment at not being able to play Agger for most of the season saying that it was a blow for Agger and that he hoped the operation would solve the problem. Benitez is confident that Agger will be back in action next season.
