The president of FIFA Sepp Blatter has publically discussed his plans to alter the African Nations Cup in future years. FIFA have been putting pressure on CAF to bring the tournament in line with other international fixtures. The competition currently takes over 40 players from the Premier League alone during a crucial part of the season.

Blatter wants the tournament to kick off in the summer close period but CAF believe the weather in Africa is unsuitable at that time.
