African Football Officials Determined That The Show Must Go On![]() The bus carrying the Togo squad to the African Cup of Nations was attacked by gunmen at the border between host nation Angola and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) on Friday. The bus driver was killed and nine others were injured, including two players. The Front for the Liberation of the Enclave of Cabinda (FLEC) claimed responsibility. Cabinda is an Angolan enclave, divided from the rest of the country by the DRC. It was due to stage seven ACN matches, including Togo’s three group matches and a quarter-final. Officials from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) have said the tournament will proceed, although it is not clear whether the Cabinda matches will be moved, in the light of FLEC threats to continue “targeted actions in all the territory.” The Togo team are considering withdrawing from the event. Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor, who was unharmed in the attack, said: “A lot of players want to leave. They have seen death and want to go back to their families.” Tournament officials had said that teams would fly to the enclave from Angolan capital Luanda. Organising committee official Virgilio Santos said earlier today: “The rules are clear: no team should travel by bus. I don’t know what led them to do this. The incident would not have happened in the city.” A CAF statement said they were “terribly saddened by this event” and expressed its “total support as well as sympathy to the entire Togolese delegation.”
