The Gers’ title hopes took a potentially fatal hit last weekend as they were thrashed 3-0 by league leaders Celtic who pulled eight points clear off their title rivals. A brace by Gary Hooper in space of 11 first half minutes and another by Kris Commons saw Celtic completely dominate a match of very few chances.

Smith was furious over his side’s performance and claimed that it was the worst that he had seen his side play since taking over for a second spell. The Rangers coach went on to say that his side deserved to lose the game and added that the recent slump in form is a worrying sign.

Smith will be hopeful that his side can return back to winning ways having already beaten St Johnstone once early in the season as a late Kenny Miller goal had given them a narrow victory at the Ibrox Stadium.
