Rangers boss Walter Smith has his eyes set on a third successive Premier League title, but will know that he has a tough fight on his hands having lost six first team players to transfers during the summer.

Kris Boyd and Danny Wilson have left for greener pastures and Rangers have been unable to sign adequate replacements partly due to financial constraints. Smith insists the Ibrox outfit will compete, but only time will tell if the departures have affected the club. Rangers tried to sign Chris Eagles from Burnley, but were unable to afford his wages, prompting Smith to say he may have to look for loan deals.

Meanwhile Kilmarnock have appointed Mixu Paatelainen as their new boss. The former Hibs boss succeeds Jimmy Calderwood, who left at the end of the season.
