The Hammers were unlucky to lose 1-0 to Arsenal last week and although they continue to languish at the bottom of the league table, it has been revealed that manager Avram Grant’s job remains safe.

An issue for the club is that captain Matthew Upson may leave in January after contract negotiations appear to have broken down while Mark Noble is out for up to a month after undergoing surgery for appendicitis. Nevertheless, Grant will be hopeful that his side can rustle up some wins prior to the hectic Christmas fixture tangle and rise out of the relegation zone.

Meanwhile West Brom have made a surprisingly strong start to the season, which sees them occupy the 6th spot on the league table. One good news for boss Roberto di Matteo is that defender Pablo Ibanez’s red card appeal has been upheld and his one-match ban has been waived off with immediate effect. Defender Jonas Olsson is facing up to six weeks out of action with an Achilles injury, but striker Peter Odemwingie has recovered from a knee problem and could be contention for a starting place in this game.
