The Reds were denied a fifth successive league win after being held to a 1-1 draw by Wigan Athletic at Anfield last weekend. Raul Meireles continued his goal scoring form by breaking the deadlock midway through the first half to take his tally to five goals from last six games.

However in spite of dominating for much of the game, Liverpool were unable to extend their lead and Wigan made them pay by grabbing the equalizer through Steve Gohouri in the 65th minute. Manager Kenny Daglish was disappointed with the result and claimed that his players were tired after the international games in the midweek.

The Liverpool players should be well rested for their trip to West Ham though with the Reds not playing last weekend after being knocked out of the FA Cup. Liverpool will be keen to repeat their convincing win from early in the season and close down the gap to fifth place to just three points.
