Following Martin O’Neill’s shock resignation as the Villa manager, the Hammers went to Upton Park as favorites to collect at least a point from the game. However a poor performance saw them lose out heavily to Villa who rode high on goals from Stewart Downing, Stiliyan Petrov and James Milner to secure a comfortable victory from the game.

Meanwhile Bolton Wanderers coach Owen Coyle will be taking some positives from the game against Fulham last weekend which ended in a stalemate. The Trotters had the best chances of the game with Stuart Holden hitting the post late in the game while Fulham keeper David Stockdale had an excellent game, denying Johan Elmander on a number of occasions.
