Bottom placed Sunderland will be eager to get out of the relegation zone this weekend, when they face the eighth placed West Bromwich Albion. The match will be played in the Hawthorns Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Sunderlands' injury stricken squad has certainly been quite disastrous for them this season. Sitting at the 19th place with 15 points, they have lost three of their last five matches. Considering their record as the visiting side, they have lost seven matches, while conceding at least three goals in last three of them. Apart from 2-2 draw against Liverpool, they haven't had any impressive feats in the recent weeks.
As for the Baggies, their performance has been quite impressive this season, at least against the not-so-big sides. While they incurred heavy defeats against Manchester United, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur, their wins against Southampton and Hull City has certainly kept them in the race for a top 10 finish.
Comparing the two sides, it is the host team which comes out on the top by a huge margin. Not only have they won six of their last seven home matches against the Black Cats in all events, they have also kept a clean sheet in five of them.
This is a match where we'll witness West Bromwich resuming their winning ways, unless Sunderland pull a rabbit out of the hat like they did against Liverpool.
The relegation battle at the English Premier League resumes with a game between West Bromwich Albion and Sunderland will take place on Saturday 17 October 2015 at 15:00 hours BST.
With a new manager Sunderland will be hoping for better times ahead. They have not been able to strike form this season and are looking very likely to get relegated unless their form changes soon. Sam Allardyce is a good manager and has shown how good he is with former clubs that he has managed. With a new manager in place, players will look to impress the new boss which could see them play some exciting and fast paced football. Fabio Borini and Jermain Defoe will be hoping to change the fortunes of the team.
West Bromwich Albion are currently 17th in the table and are not looking very confident when they are out in the middle. However, they are four points ahead of the team in 18th and hence a loss will see them stay in their position. Saido Berahino has eased past the entire transfer saga and has started playing well. He has found the net on more than one occasion and is the talisman for his side.
Given the current form and situation the teams are in, the visitors have the better chance of coming out on top and taking the three points. The game however, promises to be a close fixture.
The fifth fixture of the English Premier League’s Game week One will be played between West Brom and Sunderland at the Hawthorns, West Bromwich Albion. The kickoff is scheduled at 15:00 (GMT) on 16th August, 2014.
West Brom survived a relegation and stayed up last season to compete in the Premier League for another season. A campaign which had a lot of draws late in the season, West Brom were unlucky in a certain sense that they could not hold on to leads or win close matches. The result could have been different if that had happened.
Addition of Joleon Lescott has been a major signing and young striker, Saido Berahino’s late season form will be crucial to the Baggies Premier League campaign.
Sunderland’s manager, Gus Poyet did a Wigan with Sunderland after the relegation battlers had a fairytale run in the final games with memorable game against title challengers, Chelsea at Stamford Bridge where they got out of the relegation zone.
Sorting out the striker problem will be main concern for Poyet as last season’s loanee, Fabio Borini back at his parent club Liverpool. Jack Rodwell signing for the Black Cats could solve the midfield problem for Poyet.
Verdict: West Brom 0 – 0 Sunderland

Sunderland are at the bottom of the table with just one point from five games. Despite making heavy investments in the summer, as they have in the last few seasons, the Black Cats have struggled, and were beaten 3-1 by Arsenal last weekend.
Albion aren’t in too much of a better state however. They were impressive last season at the beginning but are second from bottom going into this game, just a single point ahead of the Black Cats.
Albion need points and need them desperately as they have games against Manchester United and Arsenal coming up after the Sunderland clash. The Baggies have lost both their home games in the league so far but have managed to pick up a point in both their away fixtures. Shane Long and Matej Vydra continue to remain absentees through injury for Steve Clarke’s side.
