Wigan Athletic’s hopes of avoiding relegation this season could receive a massive blow this week if they fail to secure all three points against fellow relegation strugglers West Brom in their next Premier League match on Tuesday. The Latics are currently three points adrift of safety and have played a game more than their nearest rivals. A victory for West Brom on Tuesday could see Wigan slip six points away from safety and increase the pressure on coach Roberto Martinez.

Wigan’s winless streak extended to six games last weekend as they suffered a second successive defeat to Aston Villa. West Brom too will be heading into the match on the back of a disappointing performance against Blackburn Rovers. Gabriel Tamas and David Hoilett were on target for Rovers as they cruised to a comfortable 2-0 win.

The Baggies had suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Wigan early in the season and manager Roberto Di Matteo will be keen to extract revenge and pull further clear of the relegation zone.
