Spurs’ euphoria of qualifying to the group stages of the Champions League was short lived as they suffered a shock defeat against a Wigan Athletic side that had conceded 10 goals in its opening two matches. Manager Harry Redknapp admitted that he was a bit apprehensive going into the game on the back of two excellent performances but said that their victory in the Champions League should not be an excuse for the awful display from his players.

West Brom coach Roberto Di Matteo on the other hand will be hoping for another good performance from his side as he looks to build on a decent start to the new season. The Baggies secured all three points against Sunderland and came very close to holding Liverpool to a draw in their last game.

New signing Paul Scharner is expected to start for West Brom after completing his free transfer to the club just before the end of the transfer window though Spurs’ deadline day signing Rafael Van der Vaart is likely to start the game on the bench.
