Roberto Di Matteo’s return to Stamford Bridge did not prove to be a happy one for the Baggies coach as his side were thrashed 6-0 by the defending champions. A mistake from keeper Scott Carson allowed Chelsea take the lead through Florent Malouda early in the 6th minute and Didier Drogba grabbed a hat trick with Frank Lampard and Malouda also scoring a goal apiece.

The West Brom manager admitted that the scoreline did not flatter Chelsea and is aware that he has a very difficult task at hand if he is to avoid getting relegated straight back into the Championship next season.

Meanwhile Sunderland manager Steve Bruce will be disappointed with his side’s defensive display as the Black Cats let a two goal lead slip by and allow Birmingham to secure a point late in the game. Sunderland had taken a 2-0 lead midway through the second half thanks to an own goal by Stephen Carr after Darren Bent had put them ahead from the penalty spot.

However Lee Cattermole proved to be the turning point for Birmingham who scored two goals in the final 12 minutes to secure a point from the game. Sunderland continue to be without Andy Reid and Craig Gordon who are out injured while Cattermole is suspended.
