Spurs were expected to secure a comfortable victory over Hammers but were unable to create any real chances before a Frederic Piquionne goal midway through the first half ended what proved to be a disappointing week for Harry Redknapp’s side. The Tottenham manager will be disappointed with his side’s display in their recent games with Spurs managing to win just once in their last six games in all competitions.

Aston Villa on the other hand go into the match on the back of a last gasp victory over Wolves last weekend as a Emile Heskey goal two minutes before the final whistle ensured that Gerard Houllier started his reign as the Villa manager with a victory.

Houllier will be delighted with Heskey’s recent form that has seen the striker score three goals in last four games and the former Liverpool manager will be keen to make sure that the 32-year old will maintain his form for the foreseeable future.

Richard Dunne is a major doubt for Villa with the defender yet to recover from his knee injury though Gabriel Agbonlahor and Stephen Ireland are available for selection. Spurs on the other hand have an injury crisis on their hand with William Gallas, Ledley King, Michael Dawson and Younes Kaboul out injured.
