This weekend in Premier League will feature an interesting match between Tottenham Hotspur and Stoke City. The two teams will meet in the White Hart Late on Sunday afternoon.
Spurs' form in the recent weeks hasn't been all that consistent. Despite sitting at the third place with 50 points, they missed a couple of crucial chances in narrowing down their difference against Chelsea. In addition to a goalless draw against Sunderland, Spurs also lost 2-0 to Liverpool. Moreover, in the Europa League, they incurred a 1-0 defeat to Gent, which has dented their hopes in the tournament.
Meanwhile, Stoke City have been trying hard to get by in the league by holding on to draws. They held Manchester United and Everton to a score of 1-1, along with defeating Sunderland and Crystal Palace. Their sole defeat came against West Bromwich Albion by 1-0, but apart from that, they have been quite good, defensively.
Spurs have got quite a record at home. They have won their last seven league matches in the White Hart Lane, along with keeping a clean sheet in five of them. They have a good team which tends to make mistakes at times, given their better squad and this being their home game, they'll be the favourites to win.
Tottenham and Stoke both lost their opening fixtures of the season. That makes this game all the more significant. A transformed Stoke City will make the dash to London and take on the Spurs at White Hart Lane on Saturday, August 15 at 15:00 hours BST.
Xherdan Shaqiri could be in line to make his debut for Stoke City in this game. With a front line of Ibrahim Afellay, Bojan and Shaqiri, Stoke City seem to be a strong outfit that is detemeined to finish in the top half of the table. Manager, Mark Hughes, will be looking to playing s strongest line up. Charlie Adam will have a very important role in midfield given that he has to be the channel through which Stoke's link up play will take place.
Tottenham would feel rather anxious when they take the field in this game. They lost the opening fixture 1-0 to an own goal and will be looking to change their fortunes this time around. Christian Eriksen looks the most likely to score of the entire Spurs line up. Harry Kane who had a very stressful pre-season hasn't quite looked himself in the first game. Spurs will have to make the home advantage count in this game and come out with the goods. Mauricio Pochettino cannot afford to start the season with two losses.
This game will be one played from end to end given the pace in both sides. However, when the team sheets are compared, Tottenham have the advantage, but these games are not played or won on paper.

Stoke actually started well against Newcastle. They had the better of the opening exchanges and their dominance was rewarded with a goal from Oussama Assaidi on 29 minutes. However red cards to Glenn Whelan and Marc Wilson, both before half time, totally changed the complexion of the game and tipped the balance in Newcastle United’s favour.
With their backs against the wall playing nine against eleven, Stoke tried to defend but Newcastle’s forwards took advantage as they scored five between them, four of the five coming after the interval.
Tottenham drew 1-1 with West Bromwich Albion in their last game. Christian Eriksen’s superb free kick for the Lilywhites in new manager Tim Sherwood’s first game in charge was cancelled out by Albion’s Jonas Olsson.
