Swansea City and Southampton will lock horns in the Barclays Premier League next week, when the two sides will meet in the Liberty Stadium.
The Swans have managed to move out of the relegation zone, but they still have a lot to do to avoid falling back. Sitting at the 17th place with 18 points, they are heading for this fixture from what is quite possibly their best performance of the season. They visited Liverpool at Anfield Stadium and defeated them 3-2 to get away with three precious points. That was their second victory as the visiting side recently, with the first one coming against Crystal Palace with 2-1.
On the other hand, Saints just won their first match after losing four of them consecutively in the league. That spell landed them to the 11th place in the table. Given their injury stricken squad, things will only get trickier for them from now on. Their 3-0 win against the Foxes was a much needed one, but they need more to ensure a top 10 finish.
The record of the Swansea City at home is a disastrous one. They have lost their last three home matches, by a margin of three goals. This is something which the Saints will look to capitalise on. This should be an interesting game, with Saints starting as favourites.
Fans at the Liberty Stadium will witness a game between Southampton and Swansea City on Saturday, 13th February, 2016 at 15:00 hours BST.
Fraser Forster has been in sublime form after his return from injury. He has kept five clean sheets in the five games that he has started. That is one of the main reasons that Southampton have climbed up the table and are fighting for a finish in the top seven. Charlie Austin has not yet his the ground running and if he does and shows shades of his form from last season, Southampton will certainly give themselves the chance of climbing higher in the table. Ronald Koeman is certainly enjoying his life right now and the players will hope to continue their good form in this game as well.
Swansea City come into this game on the back of not losing any of their last three games. They are in good form and will be hoping to use the home advantage and ensure to keep the streak alive. They will Gylfi Sigurdsson has refound his fine form and has been the main ochestrator in midfield. He has added goals to his game and is one of the main reasons that the team is unbeaten so far.
This game promises to be a thriller. Calling a winner is not easy and hence we could see this game end in stalemate.
The Swans will take on Southampton on Saturday 20 September at 15:00 hours BST. The game will be played at Liberty Stadium. This is surprisingly a top table clash.
These two teams are loaded with talented players of which are underrated. The current league position for Swansea and Southampton is a fair reflection of their day-in and day-out hard work. Both the teams are in the champions league spot, but it remains to be seen as to how long they can sustain this level of performance.
Swansea lost their last game against Chelsea while Southampton is in superb form as they beat Newcastle 4-0. Morgan Schneiderlin who was so close to leaving is in fine form and a player to watch out for.
Swansea’s Gylfi Sigurdsson and Nathan Dyer will be a constant threat to the Southampton defense. Their passing and speed on the counter will test the defense on many occasions.
This match should bring goals and will be very exciting to watch from a neutral’s perspective.
Swansea’s 4-1 victory against Aston Villa last weekend made sure that they retained the 12th position in the league table with 39 points from 36 matches. Safe from the relegation spots for this season, Garry Monk’s side will now aim for a befitting end to the season after two back-to-back victories. Swansea City have won three of their last six matches, drawing one and losing two.
Southampton have had a very good season in the league which sees them at the eighth position with 52 points from 36 matches, eight behind Manchester United. Last weekend’s 2-0 victory against Everton at home denied the visitors the chance to make a grab for the Champions League spots for the next season.
Manager Mauricio Pochettino would now be aiming to have a memorable end to the season with two victories in their last two matches giving them the chance to play in Europe next season.
