The Hammers registered only their second win of the new season by beating Wigan Athletic 3-1 last weekend. Goals from Valon Behrami and Victor Obinna had given West Ham a two goal lead 10 minutes into the second half and with Wigan missing a great chance of getting back into the game after failing to convert a penalty, Scott Parker put the result beyond doubt with a third before Tom Cleverley scored a consolation goal late in the game.

Grant expressed his relief at the result and while West Ham continue to remain at the foot of the table, the Israeli coach will be aware that his side can pull themselves well clear of the relegation zone if they manage to put up such displays on a consistent basis.

Sunderland on the other hand suffered a disappointing defeat away to Wolves last weekend. The Black Cats twice came down from a goal down to restore parity only for Sylvan Ebanks-Blake to score a late winner.
