The Black Cats slipped to seventh in the league table following a disappointing defeat to Stoke City in their last match. With Liverpool regaining their form, manager Steve Bruce will be aware that his side will have to put up consistent performances if they are to secure qualification to the Europa League next season.

Sunderland go into the match following a last gasp defeat to Stoke last weekend. Goals from Kieran Richardson and Asamoah Gyan looked to have handed Sunderland all three points with the Black Cats 2-1 up in the final 10 minutes of the game. However Robert Huth pulled Stoke level with seven minutes remaining before grabbing an injury time winner to hand all three points to his side.

Tottenham on the other hand were the beneficiaries of an injury time goal with Niko Kranjcar coming off the bench to grab the winner against Bolton Wanderers after Daniel Sturridge had canceled out Rafael Van der Vaart’s penalty midway through the second half.
