Both Bolton and Sunderland have emerged surprise challengers for a place in the Europa League next season and with almost half of the season over, both the managers will be optimistic of maintaining their position in the league table come the end of the season.

Bolton bounced back from their disappointing defeat to Manchester City in a perfect fashion as they secured a 2-1 win over Blackburn Rovers in spite of being reduced to 10 men. A drab game opened up midway through the second half after Mark Davies was sent off but Bolton responded to the dismissal by taking the lead through Fabrice Muamba. Mame Biram Diouf looked to have rescued a point for Blackburn by equalizing with three minutes remaining only for Stuart Holden to hand Bolton all three points late in the game.

Sunderland on the other hand had to settle for a point against Fulham in a game that saw very few chances. Manager Steve Bruce will nevertheless be pleased with his side’s display and will be hoping to improve on the result this weekend.
