The Reds seem to have turned the corner with three straight wins including an excellent performance against defending champions Chelsea last weekend. Fernando Torres picked the perfect stage to announce his return to form as his two brilliant goals led the line for Liverpool’s fairly comfortable 2-0 win over the league leaders.

Manager Roy Hodgson was delighted with his team’s display and was particularly pleased that Torres finally found himself on the scoresheet after a poor start to the season that has seen a number of experts questioning his contribution to the team.

Meanwhile Stoke continued their poor run of form with a fourth successive defeat against Sunderland last weekend. Asamoah Gyan seized his chance of a rare start for the club by scoring a brace to help Sunderland secure a comfortable victory though Stoke manager was furious with some of the refereeing decisions.
