The Magpies got Pardew’s reign off to a winning start with a comfortable 3-1 win over Liverpool in their last match. Newcastle’s last match against Birmingham City was snowed off which means that they have had nearly two weeks of rest ahead of the busy Christmas schedule that sees them play four games in less than 10 days.

Man City on the other hand will be looking to bounce back from their disappointing defeat to Everton on Monday as they look to remain in touch with Manchester United and Arsenal at the top of the league table.

City went into the match in a festive mood following the confirmation that captain Carlos Tevez has withdrawn his transfer request. However they were provided with a rude shock as Everton quickly raced to a two goal lead and managed to hold on to all three points in spite of being reduced to 10 men.

City are facing a couple of injury concerns with Mario Balotelli limping off the field midway through the second half against Everton while Pablo Zabaleta played for much of the game with a bandaged head. Kolo Toure is suspended for the game after receiving two yellow cards against the Toffees.
