The Magpies have expressed interest in taking on Ireland on a short term loan with the midfielder seemingly out of Aston Villa coach Gerard Houllier’s plans. Newcastle have also been busy fending off interest from star striker Andy Carroll with a number of clubs enquiring about the possibility of a deal with the transfer fee climbing as high as 30 million.

Manager Alan Pardew will be hopeful that his side’s recent good form continues with the Magpies unbeaten in their last four games to climb to 9th in the league table. Newcastle will count themselves unlucky not to have collected all three points against Tottenham in their last game with the Spurs grabbing an injury time equalizer.

Meanwhile Arsenal will be looking to avenge their shock defeat to Newcastle from early in the season and remain in touch with Manchester United at the top of the table. Carroll had scored the only goal of the match for the Magpies and while Arsenal are not expected to return empty handed, Pardew will be happy if his side can collect at least a point from the game.
