United have put up a couple of excellent performances in their two home games so far and will be confident of securing a third successive victory in front of their home crowd against a Liverpool side that has managed just one win from their opening four games. However United are going through a rough patch of their own and find themselves four points behind league leaders Chelsea.

The Red Devils go into the match on the back of a thrilling 3-3 draw against Everton. Goals from Darren Fletcher, Nemanja Vidic and Dimitar Berbatov had given United a comfortable 3-1 lead heading into injury time but two goals in space of two minutes from Tim Cahill and Mikel Arteta saw United drop points once again due to late goals.

Liverpool on the other hand were less than impressive against Birmingham City and only some great goalkeeping by Pepe Reina helped them avoid an embarrassing defeat against the Blues. Star striker Fernando Torres has come under some criticism from the media after yet another lackluster performance while Liverpool are struggling to create chances for the Spanish international.
