City took full advantage of Tottenham Hotspur’s slipup against West Brom last weekend by securing three vital points against Blackburn Rovers to pull four points clear of Spurs in the race for the final Champions League spot, though at one point it looked as if City too would have to settle for a solitary point.

Roberto Mancini’s side completed dominated the first half against Blackburn but had little to show for their efforts. With Blackburn increasingly looking dangerous, City finally broke the deadlock in the 75th minute with Edin Dzeko scoring his first league goal since his £27 million move from Wolfsburg.

Mancini will be confident of a far more comfortable victory against a struggling West Ham side that has lost its last four games. West Ham boss Avram Grant will be aware that a defeat on Sunday could all but condemn his side to Championship football next season with the Hammers currently two points away from safety.
