City have not beaten Liverpool since 2004 and have since then lost five of the 10 games played between the two sides. However Roberto Mancini’s side drew both their games last season and another busy time in the transfer window this summer has increased the hopes of securing all three points from the game this weekend as City look to remain within touching distance of at least a top four finish.

City started the new season with a disappointing stalemate away to Tottenham Hotspur. While Mancini will be happy with the point, he will be disappointed with his side’s performance and only a string of excellent saves by keeper Joe Hart helped them come away with a point against Spurs.

Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson on the other hand will be pleased with his side’s performance against Arsenal. Though the Reds were reduced to 10 men following Joe Cole’s red card, Liverpool looked better of the two teams and took a deserved lead through David Ngog only for Arsenal to collect a point thanks to an own goal by Pepe Reina.
