The Citizens had climbed to second in the league table with an excellent attacking display against Newcastle United before Arsenal’s win against Chelsea meant that Roberto Mancini’s men slipped down to third.

Goals from Carlos Tevez and Gareth Barry had given City a two goal lead in the opening five minutes and though Andy Carroll threatened a late comeback by reducing the deficit, Tevez scored a second to put the game beyond doubt. Mancini will be delighted with his side’s display in the first half of the season that sees them just two points away from the top of the league table.

Blackpool on the other hand had yet another home game canceled due to lack of undersoil heating as their match against Liverpool was called off due to a frozen pitch. The Tangerines have played just one game in nearly a month and manager Ian Holloway will be hopeful that the rest will provide his team with an advantage when they take on City.

The Tangerines are currently sitting 11th in the league table, six points clear off the relegation zone and could go as high as 8th if they manage to secure a shock win this weekend.
