The Citizens had made a good start to the new season, collecting four points from their first two games which included a 3-0 demolition of Liverpool. However their expensively assembled attack failed to live up to its reputation against Sunderland with City managing just two shots on target with Carlos Tevez missing an open goal from just 10 yards out before a mistake from Micah Richards allowed Darren Bent to score the winner from the penalty spot deep in injury time.

Manager Roberto Mancini expressed his disappointment over the result and admitted that his side deserved to lose the game since they were unable to take the chances that came their way. With his side set to play Chelsea later this month, Mancini will be keen to go into that match on the back of some good performances in his next two games.

Blackburn on the other hand will be hoping to avoid another defeat when they visit the City of Manchester Stadium this week. The Rovers suffered a heavy 4-1 defeat in this fixture last season and manager Sam Allardyce will be hopeful that his side will manage to come away with at least a point this time around.
