Manchester City will be hoping that their hard fought victory over West Brom will provide a perfect platform for them to relaunch their title challenge starting with another victory over Birmingham City on Saturday. A Mario Balotelli brace early in the first half helped City snap out of a three match losing streak and collect all three points against West Brom. The victory eased some pressure off manager Roberto Mancini who has come under increasing pressure following an inconsistent start to the new season amid reports of player unrest.

Balotelli though is not likely be available for the game against Birmingham after the Italian was sent off midway through the second half though City managed to hold on to their two goal lead and prevent West Brom from making their numerical advantage count.

Though Balotelli has accepted his red card that sees him miss the derby game against Manchester United, City are appealing against the three-match which, if successful, could see the Italian back on the field against Birmingham.
