Sunderland will be looking to take full advantage of Liverpool’s poor start to the season to register their first victory at the Anfield Stadium in nearly three decades when the two teams meet on Saturday. Sunderland’s last victory away to Liverpool came back during the 1983-84 season and with his side off to a decent start in the league, manager Steve Bruce will be optimistic of ending Sunderland’s long wait by securing all three points from the game.

The Black Cats have collected six points from their first five games and go into the match against Liverpool on the back of a three game unbeaten run that includes a hard fought draw against Arsenal last weekend. Meanwhile there is some early discontent rising from the Liverpool camp after defender Daniel Agger criticized manager Roy Hodgson’s tactics. The Reds have won just one of their five games this season and go into the match on the back of a disappointing defeat away to arch rivals Manchester United last weekend.

Hodgson will be without Dirk Kuyt and Fabio Aurelio with both the players out of action due to injuries while John Mensah and Michael Turner are not available for Sunderland.
