City pulled six points clear of Tottenham Hotspur in the race for the Champions League spot with a thumping 5-0 win over Sunderland last weekend. With Spurs slipping up once again against Wigan Atheltic, manager Roberto Mancini will be confident that his side will not buckle under pressure like last season and hold on to their place inside the top four.

Liverpool on the other hand will be aware that anything less than all three points this weekend could all but end their slender hopes of overtaking Tottenham Hotspur and securing a place in the Europa League next season.

The Reds suffered a disappointing defeat to West Brom last weekend with manager Kenny Daglish bemoaning the two penalties awarded to the Baggies late in the game. Martin Skrtel had broken the deadlock for Liverpool five minutes into the second half but West Brom fought back to equalize from the penalty spot through Chris Brunt before grabbing a late winning from their second spot kick.

While City are unbeaten in their last four games against Liverpool, including a comfortable 3-0 win early this season, they have not won at Anfield since 2002-03 season and their last seven visits have yielded just two points.
