The derby will be new manager Kenny Daglish’s biggest challenge as he attempts to restore Liverpool’s glory days of the past. Liverpool’s disappointing defeat to defeat to Blackburn in their last match proved to be the final nail in the coffin for Roy Hodgson who was removed from his post with the club owners contacting Daglish to takeover until the end of the season.

Liverpool looked a far better side in their FA Cup defeat to Manchester United last weekend and Daglish will be hoping to utilize the psychological lift by helping his side climb up the league table. Though he has been named as a caretaker coach, Liverpool confirmed that they will be talking with Daglish over the possibility of a long term appointment.

Everton on the other hand will be hoping to take advantage over the change of guard by completing a double over their arch rivals following a 2-0 win early in the season. The Toffees seem to have snapped out of a poor run of form, collecting seven points from their last four games though David Moyes will be aware that his side still has a lot of work to do if they are to pose any late challenge for a Europa League spot.
