The Premier League next week will showcase a blockbuster encounter between Chelsea and Liverpool in the Anfield Stadium. The match will be played on Tuesday evening.
The Reds, who could've made it to the second place in the table, squandered their chance when they lost to Swansea by 3-2 at home. This being their sole home defeat of the season, Liverpool must be quite disappointed about it, but they have got a good team to make amends for that.
When they visited Chelsea in the first leg of this fixture, they came out to be victorious with 2-1. Moreover, given Chelsea's recent defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, they can certainly seek some lessons from that eventful match and apply it in this game.
The Blues are on the top right now, eight points clear of their closest rivals Arsenal. In addition to this, Diego Costa has been in a sensational form, as he is the highest goal scorer for his side. Nonetheless, Liverpool at Anfield are quite formidable (except for their recent debacle). They have a good record at home as well, but they still have certain defensive flaws which are easy to capitalise on.
This is a must win game for Liverpool if they need to win the league. This is surely going to be an entertaining match, with both the sides to score.
Liverpool FC will play league leaders Chelsea FC at the Anfield Stadium, Liverpool on 8th November 2014 from 12:45 GMT.
With 10 games played Liverpool FC are placed seventh on the league table with four wins, two draws and four losses. They look a shadow of the team that were churning up results week in, week out last season.
In the last five matches Liverpool FC have won two with two draws and a defeat in their last game, in the last five home games they have identical results with two win and draw and a single defeat.
Chelsea FC are clearly the team to beat. With only 10 matches played in the league so far they have already stretched the gap at the top by four points. Yet to be beaten this season they have won eight of the matches played so far drawing the other two.
In the last five matches they have won four drawing the other. In the last five away games they have won three and have drawn the other two. An away win is on the cards with a goal from the league second top scorer Diego Costa. The most Liverpool will hope for is a draw.
Liverpool surged five points ahead of second-placed Chelsea at the top of the table last weekend after the Reds won their match against Norwich City, while the Londoners succumbed to lowly Sunderland.
Surely the most improved side in the Premier League, Liverpool have been prolific in front of goal with strikers Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge combining with captain Steven Gerrard to give joy to the Reds’ fans. Chelsea lost the golden opportunity to reduce the gap between themselves and Liverpool to only two points before this massive clash when they lost to Sunderland with an uninspired performance last weekend.
Even a win in this match would not ensure Chelsea of the Premier League trophy, and with half a mind on the second leg of the Champions League semi-final next week, Chelsea look second favourite to win this encounter.
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers knows that this is the ultimate opportunity to create history for his team and the Northern Irishman will leave no stone unturned to make that happen.
