Hughes lost all the three games against United when managing Manchester City and the 46-year old will be hopeful that a change of club will provide a different result as he looks to repeat Fulham’s excellent performance against United from their last visit to Craven Cottage.

Meanwhile Manchester United will be looking to maintain their excellent start to the new season that has seen them impress in their pre-season before completely dominating the games against Chelsea and Newcastle United. Paul Scholes will once again prove to be the key for United after the veteran midfielder ran the game against Newcastle.

Manager Alex Ferguson will be tempted to name an unchanged line-up though Michael Owen could make it to the bench after missing out against Newcastle due to lack of fitness.
