Avram Grant is expected to remain in the dugout for West Ham’s trip to Everton but a defeat this weekend could spell the end for the Israeli regardless of whether the Hammers board have managed to find a replacement. Grant was expected to be sacked following West Ham’s heavy 3-0 defeat to Arsenal last weekend with Martin O’Neill expected to be named as the replacement. However the Northern Irish coach is reported to be unhappy over the way his appointment is being handled and has now revealed that he is no longer interested in replacing Grant at Upton Park.

While O’Neill’s backtracking has given Grant a stay of execution, the Israeli coach will be aware that another defeat to Everton this weekend could see the West Ham board taking a chance and sacking him with Martin Jol and Sam Allardyce also in contention to take the hot seat.

Everton will be keen to take full advantage of the crisis at West Ham to secure three vital points that could see them pull further away from the relegation zone. The Toffees came very close to snatching a historic win at Anfield last weekend but had to settle for a point following a thrilling 2-2 draw against Liverpool.

The Toffees could be without Steven Pienaar for the game against West Ham with the winger likely to sign for Tottenham while West Ham could welcome back Benni McCarthy and Herita Ilunga.
