The Toffees were not expected to cause Chelsea any trouble in their fourth round clash but held the Blues to a 1-1 draw in the replay which included a final minute free kick by Leighton Baines before dumping out the defending champions on penalty shootout.

Manager David Moyes was delighted with the result and said that his side showed true determination and resilience to bounce back from a poor performance against Bolton Wanderers in their last game and more than match the double winners from last season.

However the Everton manager was quick to dampen hopes that his side will now pick up pace in the league and has given up hopes for a European qualification this season. The Toffees are 13th in the league table, just three points above the relegation zone and have won just once in their last five games though they have impressed with their battling displays.
