The Toffees have struggled to regain their form from the second half of the last season that almost saw them gatecrash into Tottenham and Manchester City’s fight for a Champions League spot. Everton started the season with a disappointing defeat to Blackburn Rovers and followed it up with a 1-1 draw at home to Wolves.

Though they finally managed to register a win with a thumping 5-1 win over Huddersfield in the Carling Cup, they were unable to prevent another defeat, this time to Aston Villa in their last match.

Meanwhile Manchester United will be boosted by the returns of Rio Ferdinand and Anderson. Ferdinand struggled with injuries for most of the last season and dropped out of the World Cup with a knee injury. However the England captain made a successful return with the reserves last week and could start the game against Toffees this weekend.

With Chelsea already opening up a two point lead at the top of the table, United manager Alex Ferguson will be expecting nothing less than all three points from his side as he looks to lead them to a the Premier League title this season.
