The Toffees ended their seven match winless streak with an excellent performance against Manchester City, scoring two goals in the opening 20 minutes through Tim Cahill and Leighton Baines. Though City threatened in the second half, they only managed to reduce the deficit, with Phil Jagielka scoring an own goal in the 72nd minute, as both the teams ended the game with 10 men on the field.

Manager David Moyes expressed his delight at the result and said that the victory was a fair reflection for his side as they put up an excellent defensive showing especially after being reduced to 10 men.

Moyes will be confident of securing another three points against a Birmingham City side that is struggling to replicate their excellent form from last season. Just two wins from their last 15 games has seen Birmingham slip close to the relegation zone and manager Alex McLeish has admitted that he wants to strengthen the squad during the January transfer window.

Mikel Arteta returns to action after completing his three match ban while Steven Pienaar is also likely to be in the starting lineup though Victor Anichebe is suspended for the game.
